The
book and movie The Hunger Games

The Hunger
Games by the writer
Suzanne Collins was a good and exciting movie. This story was about young
people killing each other to survive. They were chosen by a lottery. The Hunger Games resembles ancient Rome.
The Hunger Games and ancient Rome was
controlled by the emperor. People didn’t have freedom. I thought that story was many different
scenes between the book and movie, The Hunger
Games in clothing, character and story.
First, there are differences between the book
and movie about character clothing. For example, “I pull on trousers, a shirt,
tuck my long dark braid up into a cap.” This example is important because it
was characteristic. In the book Katniss was so poor. I thought she was not poor
because she wore good leather clothes in the movie. People in the Capital wore
colorful clothes in the movie. For example, “the oddly dressed people with
bizarre hair and painted faces who have never missed a meal. All the colors
seem artificial, the pinks too deep, the greens too bright, the yellows painful
to the eyes, like the flat round disks of hard candy” (P, 59). This example is
important because this is character portrayal. But I thought that their clothes were similar
in the book.
Second,
there were differences between the book and movie about characters. Collins
writes,” Someone else enters the room, and when I look up, I’m surprised to see
it’s the baker, Peeta Mellark’s father.” This example is important because in
the book, many people have meaningful roles and they each give more
information. In the book, Katniss didn’t meet Peeta’s father and Madge in the
movie but she met them in the book. And in the book the Gamemaker didn’t have a
name but in the movie, the head Gamemaker was called Seneca. This is important
because the Gamemaker was not only one person, many people made the game. So
Seneca was the head person. In the
movie, Katniss’s mother was in few scenes in the movie and Haymitch was not
strong but in the book the mother was in more important scenes and Haymitch was
stronger. Collins writes,“Then he
reads the list of past District 12 victors. In seventy-four years, we have had
exactly two. Only one is alive. Haymitch Abernathy” (P, 19). This is important
because this proves Haymitch was strong.
The third, difference between the book and
movie was in the story. After Rue died in the movie, District 11 peoples rioted
against the Capital but in the movie, District 11 peoples sent the bread for
Katniss. And monster killed Thresh in the movie but in the book Thresh was
killed by Cato. And in the movie, after Katniss was stung by the bee she
remembered the past memory when her father died in the mine, however, in the
book after Katniss was stung by the bee she had bad hallucinations. For
example, Suzanne Collins writes, ”A butterfly balloons to the size of a house
then shatters into a million stars. Trees transform to blood and splash down
over my boots. Ants begin to crawl out of the blisters on my hands and I can’t
shake them free. They’re climbing up my arms, my neck… ”.(P, 194) This is important because this
scene was so different between the movie and book.
In
conclusion, I thought that book of The
Hunger Games was better than the movie. Because, important parts were left
out in the movie but the movie allows us to easily about feelings of characters.
The other side, in the book had more information, but people can understand
easily about the story. These clothing, characters and stories were so
different. It was interesting. In the movie and book were many different
things. Especially, the characters had different feelings .
